Proudly announced to the T1D #WeAreNotWaiting community at D‑Data 2026…

Omnipod 5 is coming to Loop & Trio this summer

Last updated: July 2, 2026

What’s happening?

We’ve gotten Omnipod 5 pods working with Loop and Trio. Omnipod 5 support is now in an open beta for experienced Loopers or Trioneers, and will be available to all users later this summer!

This work was only possible through the amazing work of our open-source community of developers supported by the Nightscout Foundation — a nonprofit focused on empowering development to improve the lives of those with Type 1 diabetes. As devices change and products come to their end of life, your support can help make effective systems for Type 1 diabetes available to everyone regardless of what devices they use.

What's Loop? What's Trio?

Loop and Trio are both open-source automated insulin delivery (OSAID) systems for patients with Type 1 diabetes, built by the #WeAreNotWaiting community. They are apps which you build and run on an iPhone that connect with compatible insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors. Both apps are maintained by a shared community of developers and are not formally approved by any regulatory body.

For existing Loopers or Trioneers:

As long as you're an experienced Loop or Trio builder, you can follow the instructions on this page to prepare your build to support Omnipod 5! Otherwise, we recommend you be patient for just a bit longer while all the rough edges are worked out, and you'll be able to start using Omnipod 5 soon.

Get ready

As part of building support for Omnipod 5, we created a new pump plugin. OmnipodKit is a new, unified open-source Omnipod driver, built over multiple years of work. It works with Eros, DASH, and (soon) Omnipod 5 pods, and is already available in the latest version of Trio and Loop.

  1. Update to the latest version of Loop or Trio.
  2. If possible, use Browser Build so you stay up to date!
    1. You can learn more about Browser Build at TrioDocs or LoopDocs.
  3. Enable the Data Sharing option which will automatically reports app crashes.
  4. When Omnipod 5 support is fully ready, you'll be all ready to go!

If you're an experienced Loop or Trio user willing to follow custom build instructions, you can see more information about the open beta at the link below:

Frequently asked questions

Can I switch to using Omnipod 5 pods now?

We’re excited too - BUT Omnipod 5 support is not available in Trio or Loop yet unless you are an advanced user willing to follow custom build instructions! However, OmnipodKit is already available in the latest versions of Trio and Loop for users of DASH and Eros pods.

Our developers have put multiple years of work into a unified pump driver that works with Eros, DASH, and Omnipod 5 pods. You can help us by enabling the Data Sharing option while continuing to use your current DASH or Eros pods.

I use Omnipod 5 today but not with Loop or Trio. What does this mean for me?

Loop and Trio are community-maintained applications for those who were not waiting for advanced algorithms to control their type 1 diabetes. If Omnipod 5 is working for you, great! Nothing is changing. This announcement brings more options to existing users of Loop and Trio who use other pumps or pods.

How does this affect Android users or AndroidAPS?

Loop and Trio are for iOS (iPhone) only. Once Omnipod 5 support has launched, you can get an iPhone and switch to Loop or Trio.

While we don't have anything to announce today, there is work being done on supporting Omnipod 5 in AndroidAPS - it is just not ready and doesn't currently have an ETA.

You can keep up to date on development progress by monitoring the AAPS Users Facebook group or the WeAreNotWaiting Discord server. Tentatively, the AndroidAPS developers hope to support Omnipod 5 by the end of the year — however, there is still much additional work needed.

Does the iPhone 16 or 17e still have connection issues with Omnipod 5 pods?

There has been no indication that the iPhone 16 or 17e have the same connection issues with Omnipod 5 pods as with DASH Atlas pods.

Does the Omnipod 5 have the 203 errors?

We can’t guarantee you won’t encounter a 203 error or any other error, but at this time there has been no indication that the frequency of 203 errors persists with Omnipod 5 pods.

When will Omnipod 5 support be released so I can use it?

When it’s ready™️

- likely by the end of the summer.

If you are familiar with building Loop or Trio, you can follow the open beta instructions above. Alternatively, just keep your app updated via Browser Build and you'll get support for Omnipod 5 when it's fully ready.

What does this mean about support for other pumps, like Mobi?

The same developers working on Omnipod 5 are also working on Mobi. Omnipod 5 took priority due to the drastic increase in 203 errors and iPhone 16/17e communication issues. We are still working on Tandem Mobi and hope to have an update for you… soon™️…

How did support for Omnipod 5 happen? What can I do to help?

Loop and Trio are projects built and maintained entirely by volunteers, and they will always be free to use. The Omnipod 5 driver alone in OmnipodKit represents years of volunteer work by open-source developers, supported through the Nightscout Foundation. If these systems have helped you and you’d like to help support the community, the Nightscout Foundation is a nonprofit focused on empowering development to improve the lives of those with Type 1 diabetes and would be grateful for your support.
